The turbo oiling system in a 930 is an active scavange, the oiling system on the aftermarket applications is active feed and passive gravity drain. Personally I prefer an air vent but I can see on a 930 where it is not essential due to the oil being pumped from the sump. I have no idea if it cavitates but I would suspect that it does due to the scavenge pump being run off the cam shaft. The push/pull is likely not perfectly matched.
All that boosing pressure on and off throughout the various systems of the engine tends to force oil into some strange places.
