I figured that tank was from an '86-on US, I have the other style stock tanks for the pre-'86 engines. That one is actually located in a completely different spot than the B&B and the chrome one you have pictured.

Cam grinding is likely not your issue, it's that the grinder is covered up with other work and hasn't gotten to it yet.

I cut the muffler in question up last night and will add a bend that clears everything. Thank you all so much for your help. Learned a lot.
