Throttle linkage question

Luckily, I wasn't to far from home when this happened. I was driving my '77 930 and pushed on the accelerator pedal, when I felt it give and it went straight to the floorboard. The engine was still running and returned to idle speed.

I pulled over and looked into the engine bay and the throttle linkage looked normal and was still attached. I did notice a slight binding of the accelerator pedal the last couple of times out, but the pressure was only felt from idle to 1,000 rpm...after that it felt normal.

Could the throttle linkage have let go somehow? Is there a cable end that could have broken off? Thanks for any help or suggestions.
