It needs to stay. the pulley is what is attached to the back of your cam, and drives the pump. The pump pulls oil out of your Turbo drip tank and sends it to the oil tank. Many believe it is a good idea to put an oil filter system between the pump and oil tank, b/c "coked" oil comes from the turbo and is not filtered. The end result being clogged cam tower oil passages.

I have never actually seen an air injection system on a car, mine was pulled way before I got my hands on it.
