The D Spring will load it aft, so not much choice there.
When I replaced my cable, I started at the tranny and worked towards the pedal.

Make sure you give it plenty of slack (ie. allot of thread showing at the pedal end via the clevis)!

I made the mistake of not having enough slack and the end result was when you pushed the clutch pedal the throttle would stick!

The problem was where the cable dives over the throttle rocker at the tranny it would stiffen when the clutch was pressed and bear down on the rocker holding the throttle at whatever position it was at! It was really one of those "Oh dear god" moments when I test drove it after the cable change.

Also make sure you do not intertwine the clutch cable with the throttle rod inside the tunnel!
