You may not want to here this, yes it can be done, the weight is more balanced towards the flywheel end of the engine and some guys build a wooden box with castor wheels on it that support the engine and allow the ATV jack to be removed when lowered.

Two things i do not do anymore, this comes from my years of experience. I wont use a floor jack or ATV jack to remove an engine and I never climb under a car supported by jack stands!

I use an inexpensive hydraulic lift table to remove the engine and work on it when its removed from the car. I also have a 3/4 lift which is a 60's vintage lift i purchased from an old service station for a few hundred bucks.
