Hi,
The leakdown is a major issue. If a valve adjustment is causing this leakdown to be bad, I think that valve is burned. I not saying it ain't possible that it is "being held off the seat" and is not burned, just playing the percentages here. Same with the carbon particles. I'd budget a top end fix, a tranny fix, some suspension fix's, and everything else unknown. If he has not done a service in 15,000 miles, HOW MANY YEARS OR DECADES WAS THAT?

There's an old Latin phrase that comes to mind here: caveat emptor...
