Tranny rebuilds are easy if you have the "factory tools".........aka home brewed specials The exhaust pipe clamp is a perfect example. Factory tools are not needed, they just make the job a whole lot easier/quicker.

A good trick for you at home tranny guys..... go get a 12" piece of 1" x3" pressure treated wood. Hack it into four 3" long pieces. When you need to clamp a gear or main/pinion shaft in a vise to remove parts, like those nuts, clamp the teeth of a gear in between two pieces of that wood. You can REALLY put some good clamping force on the parts like that with no worry of breaking or chipping a tooth.

Been doing that on the Audi/Subaru boxes for years that have the 4WD hollow pinion shaft that you need to clamp down to get ~220ftlbs of torque on the main pinion nut.

Works like a charm!
