Pertronix "fit"

i just installed a Pertronix unit in my distributor from my '73 911E. the instructions say that the bottom of the firing module should be even with the bottom of the round magnetic device that slips onto the shaft of the distributor. the Pertronix unit is the correct one for my distributor, and the magnetic unit is properly fitted onto the distributor shaft.

in my case, the firing unit seems to fit about 1/8" too high compared to the round magnetic device that slips on the distributor shaft. it is as if the mounting plate is 1/8" too thick, raising up the bottom of the firing module just a wee bit too high.

i have not installed the unit in the car yet, so i wanted to ask fellow Pelican Pertronix folks if the fit i am describing is common? or should the two parts line up exactly as the instructions say they should?

again, it only seems about 1/8" too high, but before i go to the trouble of firing up the car, I thought I would check the BBS for comments.

thanks.
