I can tell you first hand that the Delphi plants I visit are doing much better with the new hires.
When a person is grateful to make 14-15.00 per hour, it changes the whole atmosphere. While not everyone is giddy about that wage, for some young people, it is a blessing. They then turn around and spend that money in the community.
The GM plants I deal with are still more old guard/mentality than new thinking but they ARE coming around. It will still be cause for pain for some but I think it will make GM a stronger company long term.
