You're right of course.
The same could be said for the first populist mass market Porsche the 924. However, enthusiasts are a much more loyal and less fickle customer base. The Cayenne will doubtless make Porsche a lot of money. But will today's Cayenne buyer still be around in three years time or will they have moved on? In my opinion, the decision to build the Cayenne was a fundamental change in Porsche's marketing and corporate strategy and can only alienate a large part of their traditional customer base. Porsche is a succesful company, but it is a SMALL company. It is trying to act and market as a major player. We shall see what we shall see.
