I wonder if the factory chains with the links are adjustable enough? What I am wondering is if you take a link out you probably have to take out 1" or so. Maybe the chain would then be too short to fit. I guess that is where special idler wheels come handy.

I don't even know if links can be removed from the factory linked chain. Anyone know?

Another problem with a small idler wheel would be an increased rpm of the wheel along with more wear on the shaft and bearing surface. I've had a stock one on my 3.2 carrera squeal occasionally and I had to replace it. Chain tensioner had loads of room to expand.

Can the sprockets on the intermediate shaft be replaced at all?
