How much horsepower would you save if you found a way to spin the fan with an electric motor?

Perhaps an enlarged version of the newer popular R/C aircraft brushless "outrunner" motor would do the trick?

What if you even used an original fan, fan housing, and even reworked the internals of a stock alternator into a 3 phase brushless motor that would "bolt in"?

The biggest hurdle there seems like the "speed controller". It would need to convert 12V dc to 3 phase A/C power and obviously be extremely reliable.

Sorry, just playing the "what if" game here... I need to get back to work

Is any of this viable or just completely stupid??
