They polish back up if it bothers you. I just used some of those abrasive sticks on a bench grinder fitted with a couple cloth polishing wheels and brought it back to it's original glory. It could also be that the pipe is not made of the same quality or stainless steel compound that the rest of the exhaust it colors more quickly. Since is comes off with just the unscrewing of a band clamp, I've polished mine a number of times...but only down to where it shows. You can do the polishing in about 10 minutes with the wheel and the white and red abrasive sticks.
