I've seen this problem several times. The wall thickness, metalurgy and design of the stock heat exchangers will tolerate a range of heat that the B&Bs will not. Anything less than near-perfect AFRs, fuel distribution and timing will manifest itself the way you describe.

To me this condition is not acceptable and a fire hazzard. I would verify your AFRs, injector function, and timing then adjust until this problem goes away.
