It has nothing to do with being pumped all over the place, and you are not crazy for driving it as long as you had oil pressure

The higher the oil temp, the higher the level will be, which is why it's best to run the oil level between the two marks, leaving room for expansion w/ temp.

Checking the level w/ the temp at the first white line, you probably don't want it higher than 1/3 way to the upper mark.

At half temp, you want it half way between the marks, although I doubt you have a hard time getting oil temp in that beast!!

I tend to disagree as all the oil wicks to the crankcase as it sits then as the thermostat opens the oil will return to the tank there is No way oil will expand to show 3 quarts more.
