I wouldn't hesitate on a set of JE pistons. I feel they are more durable but others will disagree. I run 8.13:1 compression 98mm JE's at 1.5 bar, on the street, on pump fuel with 750+HP with no detonation and no problems.

The lands on the 1st and 2nd ring are generous and still intact. Maybe the smaller oil ring installed previously beat the non-generous lower land causing it to crack and eventually reveiling it's ugly face after time.
