JE forged Aluminum alloy pistons expand at a greater rate than the Mahle cast Aluminum pistons and cylinders. The JE alloy is strong, but has less Silicon (partly because it is easier to forge) and so expands more at operating temperature. They build them to be in spec at operating temperature so when cold, your engine will be noisy due to "piston slap" - excessive clearance between the piston and cylinder bore.

"Nickies" from LN engineering are billet Aluminum, CNC machined, Nickel-Silicon Carbide coated cylinders that are stronger, more precisely shaped, and have better cooling than OEM cast Mahle cylinders. The alloy "Nickies" are made from is matched to the expansion rate of JE pistons. They are designed to work together and expand at the same rate through to operating temperature. The tolerances are tight and there is no noise.
