When you pulled the turbo was there oil in the intercooler or the turbo compressor housing? If so then likely the seals went bad.
If it were exhaust guides or intake guides your intercooler and turbo would be dry (relatively).
You did not overfill the oil tank and suck oil into the intake assuming this was the first thing you checked.
