Check the fuel distributor plunger for gum-out that affect the plunger free movement. It could be getting stuck at a point (i.e. 2K ~ 3K rpms) and then releases (back to normal) under suction. I had a similar experience years ago with "bad" fuel; cleaned the fuel distributor and back to normal.
