Slant Nose Oil Cooler (rear vs. front)

I believe you are correct that the rear fender mounted oil cooler started with the 1987 model year Slant Nose production. My understanding is that the M505 option (for the US market) is the only factory built Slant Nose with the oil cooler mounted behind the slats on the right rear fender.
The M506 optioned cars (RoW) continued to be made with the oil cooler mounted behind a mesh screen centered in the front spoiler/valance (as they had been with the previous Sonderwunsche Slant Nose cars built at Werke 1).
Moving the cooler to the rear of the M505 car allowed Porsche to avoid re-certifying the entire vehicle with the US DOT for crash-worthiness (the existing Turbo bumper/valance had already been approved). There were also liability concerns at the factory that a potential fire hazard existed if the front spoiler-mounted oil cooler was damaged in an accident.
