When I bought my Sumitomo's I was in the middle of a few mods so I felt that the money was better spent at that time on durable go-fast parts.
I'm happy with my decision as the tires are very grippy and quiet. Also, as DDDD stated, they are wide for their spec size. In fact, I'm going from 285-18's to 295-18's in the rear this spring.
Some day when I feel that my car is fast enough (although I doubt that feeling will ever overtake me ) I'll splurge on a some tires that are little lighter.....
