The ultimate return spring for the clutch pedal is your pressure plate. The horseshoe (omega spring in Porsche jargan) is for assistance when pushing down the clutch. The little tension spring between the case and the swinging arm (on the bottom of the trans) is to hold tension against the throw out bearing.

Now it sounds like either you have a disconnected clutch cable or a snapped clutch cable.
