are you saying you could push the clutch down but it still grabs when it is down? Well if it is rust that is causing this- get the car on a partial down hill slope (as if you were going to drive it away) push in the clutch pedal and fire her up in first (I know this sounds bad, but it will work eventually) then drive her around the neighborhood (be gentle) with the pedal down until the clutch decides to let go of the friction disk. Now don't beat its brains out untill you driven the car sto and go for a little while. I know how horrible this sounds- but if this is caused by rust, then this should solve your problem.
