With the lower compression pistons comes a flatter top and this lessens the need for twin plugging. Note that the 993TT ran single plug set up as did the 3.4 RUF yellow bird.
It really depends on the power level you're after, dropping the compression does hurt off boost power but 8.5 is not bad. It's where I'll go next, anything over 10psi you'll need an extra fuel pump and AFMs become expendable so you really need to go MAP like proto do, or MAF which I'm not as big a fan of. You also want a G50 if you're going over 10psi.
