The aftermarket drip tanks can become fluid/air locked or overburdened in applications where a non-KKK/K27 turbo is used. This can be due to incorrect system modification to compensate for the different oil supply requirements of aftermarket turbos, such as using oil to cool water cooled turbochargers. The vent line can relieve cavitation and become a "stand pipe" if oil temporarily backs up in the system. The vent line can also quickly indicate a falure in a very messy way.
