The "climbing performance" is defined (in my '87 manual) as the slip limit maximum gradient on a dry road surface with standard tires. The values listed in that 1987 Carrera/Turbo 911 manual are "approximate values at curb weight and half-load capacity."

FYI, the numbers in that manual are:

911 Carrera: 60%, 38%, 22%, 15%, and 11%
(respectively for gears 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5)

911 Turbo: 60%, 43%, 26%, 14%
(respectively for gears 1, 2, 3, & 4)
