Given that the air is less dense at high altitude, the fuel delivery might have been leaned out to keep AFRs optimal. You'd want to richen it back up.

Regarding your stone chips...that's common. My front bumper looks like that too on my '79. Pretty sure my windshield was original too, and had lots of road rash. I replaced it and visibility is muuuuuch better, especially at night. These cars are low to the ground, so forward facing surfaces tend to get sandblasted.
