I agree with Mark H.; the smaller gap probably made the difference, not the heat range. I don't know the energy output of the OEM CDI, but I wouldn't stray too far from OEM plug gap specs.

On many occasions, when I've increased plug gaps using a non-high performance ignition, I've lost gobs of torque to gain high rpm power. Only do it if you've got the hi perf control module and hi perf coil to handle it.
