you're on a good train of thought. because the synchros actually need a little bit of friction to work properly while oil in the tranny is there to lube the gears and bearings, sort of the opposite of friction when you think about it. I am simplifying it, but a level of friction in the oil is beneficial. I think Swepco 201 is the stuff to use and rebuilding the synchro is probably the right solution. when you get sick of it enuff then rebuild the tranny and consider regearing it lower while your in there.
