As a counterpoint to installing bigger brakes, I use bone-stock brakes on my 78 930 track-prepped car, and it stops beautifully lap after lap on the track. The feel is excellent, rotor life is fine, and there's no fade or loss during 25 minute sessions, even on hot days. I use Porterfield R4 pads, Motul RBF 600 fluid, and have installed some good cooling at the front, including the AJR cooling kit, Smart Racing clamshell ducting manfold and rotor eye blockoff plates. The car weighs 2720 lb and has 275/315 R-compound tires. I'm very glad to be have essentially stock brakes -- they're light, with minimal unsprung mass, and they have a good feel. I suppose if the car weighed a lot more, things might be different, but if I can run stock brakes in such a punishing environment, why would anyone need anything more?
