I don't think it hurts to turn the engine a few degrees in the opposite direction of travel, but probably not a good idea to go full revolutions. Probably messes with the timing chain tensioner system. If you're just trying to determine TDC, then of course your final rotation direction must be in the correct direction. Just my opinion....could be all wet, but it hasn't caused me any problems to-date.
