It's better for accurate AFR measurement. Having an unbalance flow throws them off. I've tried them all and theory is a good guide but typically doesn't add up to measurable HP in the real world. I built a muffler just like the one Darin is using and saw no difference in performance. The key is to have an ID big enough to offset any turbulence or bends. If that is done the design is forgiving.
