I have a weltmeister short shift kit with tight bushings throughout in mine including the coupler.
I removed the leather boot and rubber boot under it and heated the steel shift rod red hot where it bends back with an acetylene and oxygen torch, then bent it back about 1 inch farther and over to the left around an inch.

That helped and I don't have to lean forward a little to shift into 3rd now.
