it is a temp sensor for the cat light that indicates the cat is overheating, which means the cat is blocked or mixture too rich. The original EGR/CAT suppliment to the owners manual I have actually recomende 10,000 mile cat replacement. Remove the relay and harness.

If you use heat exchangers from a 70-73 1.7L or 74 1.8L you need the matching muffler and heater pipes (if you want heat). Or you can use a 73-74 2.0L system with the muffler and hanger.

If you remove the air injectoin you need to plug the ports into the heads or you will have a horrible exhuast leak in the engine compartment.

The EGR system can be removed, and you then need to block the EGR inlet into the air intake.

With the EGR removed you will be getting more air into the engine causing it to lean a little (the EGR puts burnt fuel CO2 into the engine instead of air) so you may want to bump up the fuel pressure or change the resistance on the head temp sensor, I'm not a L-Jet guy so that's just an educated guess.
