No, hot air should not enter the intake. Thorough ducting includes a cool air duct for the air filter housing.
Heated air from the intercooler will however be going into the engine fan and used to cool the cylinders.
I'm not a fan of misting or fluid injection on a street car. You need something robust and maintenance free for the long haul; a larger intercooler.
I am certain you will be surprised at the difference once the intercooler is properly shrouded and all the holes are plugged.
