Same here Mark, finally read thru this whole mess 8-).

Agreed, it's kinda dumb to say "only '76-'79's are 930s" (no offense Miguel, although be prepared to pay your pennance 10/15 muuffuukkaahh 8-)!!!). My '87s VIN has 930 in it and no that "0" isn't an "O" heh heh. Besides, VIN schmin, they're all the same !@#$%^%&* car, nominal year-to-year changes ASIDE!

anywho

I always refer to cars by chassis code. Like Brian noted, it's what most enthusiasts tend to do. Mostly it's so folks you're talking to unequivocably KNOW *exactly* what car you're referring to. If I say ///M5... which? There's been 4gens! So I'd say my e28 ///M5 kicked thorough ARSE, and everyone knows precisely "which" f'n car I'm referring to.

I say 930 - folks know it's not a 964/993/996/997.

This is especially important in cases where a model has a split year - you can't just say "my '98 911" as 993s & 996s shared the year and you could be talking about two ENTIRELY different cars.

Beyond that, fersure - "930" IS special for other intrinsic reasons, and it's mere utterance in parlance defines it as such. Proud to have mine, accordingly - feck yeah.
