I went with 100mm Nickies and JE pistons on my build. Full retail on the Nickies/JE set is similar to the price of the OEM Mahles with the half-finned cylinders. 98mm 3.4 Mahle motorsport kit is $5700...not even sure if you can get 100mm Mahles (not listed on Pelican at the moment)

Everything I've read about clearance issues with JE pistons is when they are matched with Mahle cylinders...due to different expansion rates in the aluminum alloys people run larger clearances. Supposedly the LN cylinders are designed to have an expansion rate compatible with the JE pistons (if you believe the website).

I bought mine from Chris Carrol at Turbokraft. He endorsed them and said he uses them on Turbokraft built engines frequently. I got nicely crafted parts, made in the USA, and I saved over $1500 vs. the Mahles...pretty much a no brainer for me.
