You "can" use just about any oil tank you want, for a six conversion.

BUT, if you want it to fit (nicely) in the stock -6 location AND not have pickup and foaming/splashing issues from inadequate baffling, the factory tank is your best bet. I think certain folks have sold repro tanks over the years but I don't recall them being a whole ton cheaper than the real deal.

Some race cars even run a custom tank up front in the trunk. There's obviously more plumbing to be done, but it does help a little with weight distribution I guess.

My car is getting a factory tank. The oiling system is not one of those things that is worth f*ing up, IMHO.
