DIY 944 Lexan roof

Hi all,

This is my first post here as I'm the proud new owner of a 1984 944 with a Corvette LT1 motor. The car is in decent shape overall, needing mostly interior work.

One of the things that is bugging me is the electric removable roof. One of the PO took out the lifting motor for some reason, and the manual lift function isn't working either, so I assume the gear or cables are stripped as well.

Anyways, I was planning on grabbing some 924 rear roof latches and just converting it to a manual roof. Then I got thinking that I could make it a saratoga-ish top with a sheet of tinted Lexan and just mount the seals and latches onto that. I talked to a friend who works with the stuff a lot and he said it would be pretty easy to get the necessary compound curves in it too. I wouldn't be opposed to sealing it in place like a windshield either.

Let me know what y'all think...I've searched around for something like this but didn't have much luck. I'm going for a club sport sort of look with a planned carpeted rear seat delete and fixed bucket seats and harnesses on the way, and think this would be a good way to clean everything up while removing some weight up high where it counts. Not to mention, let a little sunlight in
