Sounds like another case of f--ked by the aftermarket. So often its hit or miss.

Of course you can have problems with OEM parts too. When I was rebuilding my engine, I upgraded to the newer style cam chain idler arms. One of them turned out to be defective. Simple little thing, but somehow the manufacturer managed to screw it up. Or how about rocker shaft cone nuts where the threads are not squared to the nut (which I discovered upon disassembly of my valve train)...look at this:
