Galvanized steel was used for floor and inner panels from MY'71

outer panels of Thyssen steel were used from My'76, early '76 coupes were all Thyssen steel except for the roof but by the end of production the roofs were also Thyssen

Thyssen steel is double galvanized steel which is appropriate for outer finished body panels as opposed to simple cold galvanizing used on the inner panels.

the zinc in the galvanized panels added ~10kg to the cars weight

the '76 cars has a 6yr rust warranty which was raised to7yrs in '81 and again to 10yrs in'86

The famous picture of the 3 unpainted cars was 3 My '76 galvanized/Thyssen steel cars but there were also 3 experimental fully galvanized cars built in '67, the outer panels were polished but not painted or sealed in any other way.

from '72 ss steel was used for exhaust/heat exchangers and oil tank
