IMO, too much concern is put into the build date. Properly stored street tires (non "R" compound) can be stored for years without effecting their performance. Would have used them myself had I not changed my set up.
Sorry, I have to disagree with you on this, I have seen "Brand New" tires fail, what happens is they separate & come apart. Even if they look & feel soft, if they are over 5 years old, it is a risk and most larger tire stores won't even mount out of date tires do to the risk.. One of our employee's had a Toyota she bought new, had it maintained at the same dealership, and had them install tires. Within 1 month she had to major tire failures, turned out the tires were out of date
Naturally they took care of the problem...
