i replaced the hoses as you are trying to do. on my 84 turbo you have to replace the soft hose and the metal tube that connects just behind the passenger door. a major pain in the butt. i took a dremel and cut the collars of the hoses. got the correct size hose and a nice heavy clamp and its leak free for almost 2 years. i think if you spend the money on the correct hoses and a good clamp(not like you currently have) you will have no issues. i will try and find a pic of mine. its not a clamp you get at the local car place. you need to go to a place that specializes in hoses, hydraulic hoses. they have the good stuff.
