Gosh, I wish I did! I'd have retired sooner, and still have one.

Most of us back in those days didn't believe that cars were jewelry. We bought 'em, run 'em, and sold 'em. The 904 was a keeper, though. I bought the first one (086) for $7k and drove it regularly for two years or so. Then the second one (038) came up for sale at a Chevy dealer nearby. I went to see it on a lark, and came home with it for $5500.

It was cool because it had a close ratio trans and bigger weber carburetors. Plan was to swap parts and sell (038) after a while, which I did. Drove (086) for a few more years and then decided to "restore" it. I took the whole car apart, almost everything, and stripped all of the metal parts and primed them. Then I got married, was laid off, and ended up two months later with a job at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo and had to drive 40 miles each way thru LA FREEWAY TRAFFIC for the next 9 years.

Suffice to say I never finished the restoration; I finally sold it for $14K. Just didn't have time or energy to put into it after that.

(086) was eventually finished, painted red, and became a centerfold picture and article in Road and Track Magazine.
