Well Calvin I though I would try your suggestion first as that would be a go/no-go observation. So I looked to see if the coil had dropped down. Looked to me like it had, the post was really close to the braided grounding straps.

I removed the IC and repositioned the coil safely away from the straps. Engine fired right up and idled well. It's pretty cool today (high 50's) so the idle stayed high longer than usual. Went for a drive. Ran all over the neighborhood and everything was perfect. Engine warmed up and all good. Wow, could this be it??
Time to boost. Slowly got into it, all good, power good, AFRs good; hammer down. Pop pop backfire and pop. Dammit tohell. Power was good but the engine definitely was cutting out. Off boost and engine running very bad. Decided to drive it around and see if it changed. It did. Engine cleared up and ran OK again on cruise but still had jolting on occasion. Repeated this procedure 3 more times. By the 3rd time the engine was running badly and did not recover. At idle there is a sever miss now. AFR's are all over the place and cannot settle. Cruise fluctuated from 11.0 to 12.5 so it has gone rich. This makes since if the ignition is taking a crap.

So now what do you think? Coil? Ignition box?
