Here's where mine is located, piggy-backed with the MSDBTM boost timing retard module. Tight fit, but that location hasn't given me any problems over the years. Lots of options on where people mount theirs.
Mine is hard wired direct to the rear fuse panel if I recall (it's been awhile since I put it in), bypassing the ignition shutoff delay relay. Ideally, if I recall, the heavy gauge power wire should be wired direct to the battery via a connection down on the starter solenoid, and the smaller gauge red wire to a keyed circuit.

Mark H. 1987 930, GP White, Wevo shifter, Borla exhaust, stock everything else. The result of a massive Pelicanite good will fire recovery effort. Truely an open book, ready for the slippery slopes to modification.
