I think the most important thing is remove the sparkplugs, squirt some motor oil into combustion chambers, remove the fuel pump relays or fuse and crank it over on the starter motor while the plugs are out until it gets oil pressure and crank it another 10-15 seconds with oil pressure.

The other things mentioned are good too but you want some oil spread around on the cylinder walls and rings before starting it first. Sometimes they'll even start on 4-5 year old gas but it's alot better to drain as much of the the old varnish smelling gas thats lost it's octane out and put fresh gas in. Change the fuel filter too.
