Yes the clamps may only last a few years on a track car. By that time the slip joints will have siezed up and be difficult to take apart. The joints are made as a set and fairly tight to begin with.

I made a custom GT3 Zork once; very difficult due to space limitations and very expensive as well. It doubled the price if memory serves. Many spacial challenges to get it right. The GT3 tailpipes on my mufflers have a slip joint at the dual split so you can level the 2 pipes perfectly. There is not enough room for that with a zork.
