Here is the quote from Hans Mezger regarding secondary air injection:
"it was observed that secondary air injection does affect boost and perfromance characteristics positively. By injecting air into the exhaust manifold, the temperature of the exhaust gas went up by 80 to 90 degrees centigrade". This he said generated "a distinct increase of boost pressure, torque and power output in the low-speed range up to 3,000 rpm"
